It looks like A Song of Ice and Fire fans may need to lock George R.R. Martin up in a cabin after all. The man who created Game of Thrones has just admitted that The Winds of Winter will not be completed as promised this July.

Martin recently posted an update on his blog where he made a confession that we could all relate to.

"I have to confess, after half a year of pandemic, quarantine, and social distancing, I am showing signs of cabin fever... half of which is quite literal in my case," Martin wrote. "Yes, I am in an actual cabin in the mountains. No, I have no fever. Yay! For the present at least, I am healthy... for an out-of-shape guy of 71, at least... and doing all I can to stay that way."

This should be a good thing considering that people are expecting Martin to be churning out pages for the sixth book of his A Song of Ice and Fire series. However, it's a bit more complicated than that.

"If nothing else, the enforced isolation has helped me write. I am spending long hours every day on THE WINDS OF WINTER and making steady progress. I finished a new chapter yesterday, another one three days ago, another one the previous week. But no, this does not mean that the book will be finished tomorrow or published next week. It's going to be a huge book, and I still have a long way to go," Martin wrote.

Are we even surprised at this point? It is important to remember that Martin is a notoriously slow writer and although he was originally hopeful that the novel will be done by July, it may take a little longer. The only thing fans can rely on right now is that he is in good health and is still adding pages at his own pace.

It is still unclear when The Winds of Winter will be released. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
