Great news for Frieren fans! Aside from the highly anticipated premiere tomorrow, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End also confirmed that its first season will have a consecutive two-cour release schedule.

This means the Frieren anime will air from Fall 23 to Winter 24. Thus, it’s expected that the show will get over 20 episodes, at least.

Most TV anime are only one cour in length, so this two-cour decision coupled with its upcoming two-hour premiere should mean the staff and production committee have big plans for the series.

Fall 23 has a lot of exciting new anime, though Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End might be one of the most highly anticipated. This is because it’s based on a popular manga with a unique take on the fantasy genre.

Most fantasy titles follow a group of adventurers as they face off against their world’s fearsome villain. Frieren is an exception as it is instead set 50 years after the Demon King’s defeat.

One of the adventurers who defeated the Demon King is Frieren, an Elven mage. The series follows her as she goes on another adventure, this time with some new companions.

Aside from the interesting take on fantasy, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is also set to make a splash with its first episode as it will be over two hours long.

This trend of extra-long premieres isn’t new as anime like Oshi no Ko and Atelier Ryza also had feature-length first episodes. Frieren outdoes most of them given its lengthy running time.

On top of this, the show’s opening theme is performed by YOASOBI, the popular Japanese music duo behind the mega-hit song Idol.

Many expected Frieren to only get around 12 episodes given how long the premiere will be. Thankfully, that won’t be the case as the anime is confirmed to run for two cours or seasons.

There are many shows with two-cour seasons, such as the ongoing Jujutsu Kaisen. This release schedule is usually reserved for big shonen titles, so it’s a bit of a surprise that Frieren is getting the same treatment.

Given this, we can expect to see Frieren get between 23 to 26 episodes, depending on how much of the source material the anime will cover.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will premiere tomorrow, September 29. The series will be streamed on Crunchyroll in the US and other selected regions.
