First Official Trailer For Netflix's Umbrella Academy

The first trailer to Netflix's Umbrella Academy is here and it sure looks promising. Basically, six super-powered individuals have lost their father and an apocalypse is happening in eight days, so this dysfunctional family is going to have to get along if they want to save the world. It also looks really pretty and we can only hope that the vibrant style works well in live-action, which it seems to thus far.

We see what all six kids can do, aside from the lead character played by Ellen Paige, who isn't positioned that way by the looks of the trailer. It seems like all six characters will have an equal opportunity to shine, which is fine since this will allow for more interesting developments during the eight days before the said apocalypse.

Judging from the writing and costumes, this is definitely something fans of the comic can like. This might also itch that superhero need for Marvel fans who are likely to lose all of their shows once Jessica Jones season 3 finishes. We doubt that Punisher will get past season two, especially after what happened to Daredevil.

With an intriguing hook, good visual style, and some quirky writing, it looks like Umbrella Academy is going to be another winner for Netflix. Superhero shows always tend to be dark (Punisher), cheesy (The Flash), or trying too hard to be dark it ends up being cheesy (Arrow). The tone for this irreverent show implies that this will be one of the more self-aware comic book-based shows and that could be a huge positive.

Umbrella Academy arrives on February 15.
