If there is one thing that people can say about Evil Dead Rise, it's the fact that the film had no shortage of terrifying scenes. However, the danger was almost all too real for one actor during the horrifically iconic hallway scene.
In Evil Dead Rise, Ellie the Deadite mom tries to make her way back to her family's apartment but encounters the neighbors instead. Ellie doesn't even hesitate, ripping Gabriel's throat off and chewing his face which leads to an epic death by eyeball death of another character.
Not surprisingly, Ellie actor Alyssa Sutherland loved filming that scene but she also revealed to Insider that there was real danger while shooting the sequence with Gabriel actor Jayden Daniels.
"That was really hard because Jayden pops up in front of the peephole, and then I have to come and rip his throat," Sutherland said. "They only had two of those prosthetics, so I have two takes to get that right, and I'm also trying to be in character."
"I've got really sharp nails — they're not press-ons, they're fully attached to my fingers," she continued. "So, if I get the wrong part of that prosthetic, I could really hurt him."
Sutherland concluded, "That was probably the hardest part of it, just getting in the right position to rip this prosthetic off."
We're certainly glad that Alyssa Sutherland managed to film the scene without permanently scarring Jayden Daniels. It also led to one of the most memorable (and visually scarring) sequences in cinematic history.
Sutherland also admitted that she couldn't believe that Evil Dead Rise has been a huge success.
"It's so wild. To think that we were gonna go to HBO Max and, instead, this has been the path that it's taken... like, wait, what?" Sutherland said.
"I feel like a lot of people are going to the cinema more than once for it. It's so cool."
Evil Dead Rise is still screening in theaters worldwide.
