How Old Is Cid Kagenou?
In The Eminence in Shadow, Cid Kagenou is 15 years old for much of the story, but he turns 16 later on (in Volume 5 of the light novel).
Of course, as is the case with most isekai anime characters who get reincarnated, Cid's situation begs the question; is he really 15?
Remember that Cid used to live in our world before getting reincarnated into a magical one, with his memories and aspirations intact. This means that Cid experienced childhood all over again, all while remembering his past life.
With that taken into account, Cid could be in his early thirties. This element is what makes most modern isekai anime problematic if you think about it.
Cid's Age and the Isekai Anime Genre
Many isekai shows feature a vast amount of fanservice and reincarnated protagonists who are surrounded by characters who reflect their new physical age but are younger in terms of years of lived experience, making it all the more creepy.
Others might not mind this so much due to the new worlds' isekai protagonists getting reincarnated in fantasy universes with elves and other similar characters who might be centuries old.
Either way, we can't help feeling uncomfortable with the implications.
While we know the ages of most of The Eminence in Shadow's characters, we don't have much luck when it comes to their birthdays. This is a fantasy world, so calendars and dates likely work differently.
Cid once had a birthday in modern-day Japan, but this date is not known.
What About the Shadow Seven's Ages?
All members of the Shadow Seven, a group of girls who are dedicated to fighting the Diablos cult, are between 15 and 17 years old.
Alpha, Beta, and Delta are 15 when the show begins, and they turn 16 later on.
Meanwhile, Gamma, Epsilon, Zeta, and Eta are 17, to begin with, so they likely turn 18 at some point in the series.
How Old Are Alexia, Rose, and Claire?
Princess Alexia is a classmate of Cid's, so she's also 15, while Claire, Cid's sister, is two years older at 17. Lastly, Rose Oriana is also 17 years old.
How Old Are Mary and Elizabeth?
Mary, the vampire hunter that gets introduced in The Eminence in Shadow Season 2, is over 1,000 years old, as she is a vampire herself.
The Blood Queen Elizabeth is also more than a millennium old.
As a fantasy anime, The Eminence in Shadow features elves and other century-old beings, and now, it has added vampires to its repertoire.
What About the Rest of Season 2's Cast?
Yukime is a fox spirit whose exact age is unspecified, but it looks like she's in her early twenties.
Crismon, another vampire, is also over 1,000 years old, like Mary and Elizabeth.
Juggernaut's age is unspecified, while 559 is around 17 years old.
