Evangeline Lilly Called J.J. Abram’s Producing Partner To Ask To Join A Star Wars Film

Marvel actress Evangeline Lilly isn't new to success and fame. The Lost star has had a lot of great experience playing roles in large franchise films. Not only has she starred in films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in 2013, but she's also become one of Marvel's female heroes, playing Hope Van Dyne in Ant-Man back in 2015 and then taking on the role of the Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Now, after the great reception of the Ant-Man sequel, Marvel fans have started wondering whether Lilly might try and join Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away after the actress admitted she made calls to join the Star Wars franchise a few times before.

Speaking with fans at a panel at the Fan Expo Boston (via ComicBook.com), Lilly revealed that she actually rang up Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abram's producing partner to ask to be Leia.

"When JJ [Abrams] was first announced that he was gonna do his first Star Wars film, I reached out to his producing partner, for the first time ever since LOST ended, I never requested anything ever before, and I said, 'I wanna be Leia! Make me Leia!'"Lilly revealed.

While it seems very unlikely for Lucasfilm to recast Carrie Fisher, Lilly could have very well fit in other Star Wars roles. Maybe she could have played Daisy Ridley's Rey. Or she could have voiced Maz Kanata. Or maybe, she could have played a Resistance Pilot.

Of course, Lilly still has a lot of other opportunities to join the galaxy far, far away. After all, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has a new Star Wars trilogy on the way, and Game of Thrones co-creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have a series of Star Wars films. Lilly still has a lot of hope.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
