The anticipated Marvel movie Eternals will hit theaters in November. It was supposed to be released last year but was pushed back due to the pandemic.

While Marvel is gearing up for its release, the film faces a bump in the road. According to Kino Metro, a Russian site, the superhero movie has been rated 18+, the country's mature equivalent, and is "prohibited for children," Screen Rant reported.

Why Eternals got a mature rating in Russia?

MCU superhero films are usually catered for children. Most Marvel films receive 12+ ratings like The Avengers and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow received a 16+ rating.

However, the Eternals received an 18+ rating which prohibits children from watching it. According to Screen Rant, the country did the same due to gay content in movies like Power Rangers in 2017.

The upcoming film has gay content. One of the protagonists, Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), who creates the team's weapons and tech, is gay. The character is married to another man, and they reportedly share a kiss onscreen.

Several fans have been calling out Marvel to include a genuine LGBTQ representation in their films. The inclusion of Phastos and his married life seems to be an answer making Eternals a significant step forward.

What to Expect in the Eternals?

The Eternals' official synopsis teased a connection to Avengers: Endgame. The new group of superheroes is somewhat directly related to Thanos. The film will also feature the Deviants, who are the groups' nemesis.

However, there are rumors that the big bad also comes within the group. Richard Madden's Ikaris will allegedly be responsible for the demise of Salma Hayek's Ajak, the leaders of the Eternals, We Got This Covered reported.

Ikaris allegedly felt that they hadn't utilized their power to the fullest by hiding in the shadows. The Eternals could have been a strong backup for the Avengers, but they didn't intervene when the Earth's Mightiest Heroes fought Thanos leading to Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr) death. Will this be a cause of a severe rift between the Avengers and Eternals?

Eternals receive a theaters-only release, unlike Scarlett Johansson's movie Black Widow. It will hit cinemas on Nov. 5.
