Elizabeth Olsen Admits She Was Worried WandaVision Would Fail

It’s normal for Marvel Studios to produce movies that are easy blockbusters. Given that reputation, Elizabeth Olsen confessed she thought her Disney+ series WandaVision wouldn’t live up to expectations.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Olsen recalled her original feelings about WandaVision ahead of its release. “Paul (Bettany) kept calling us the forgotten cousin to the Marvel universe. He just felt like we were some annoying cousin that people threw in the corner… and I think Anthony Mackie and Sebastian (Stan) were traveling all over the world and blowing things up. And Paul and I were just like, doing sitcom acting in a corner.”

She pointed out, “But, we loved what we were doing. We had so much fun doing it. But we really felt like it was either going to– it might potentially ruin us all. I think that’s the stuff that feels the most fun to make, is when you feel like you could fail at any second.”

Obviously, WandaVision didn’t flop at all. It was actually so amazing that MCU fans are still holding it in high regard after it practically saved Phase 4. And now that Phase 5 is underperforming, fans tend to go back to the glory that was WandaVision.

Olsen’s performance as Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, awed both fans and critics, especially the way her portrayal worked on the series’ sitcom-style storytelling method and the major conclusion to its narrative that resonated with the audience.

Given its impact on the MCU, fans hoped that a second season was possible. However, it was originally planned to be a limited series, and the finale already stood its ground in the story. But its success led to an upcoming spin-off focusing on the show’s villain, Kathryn Hahn's Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

MCU fans are still waiting for Olsen’s antihero to pop up in the current and future offerings of the franchise. However, according to the actress, she hasn’t been given any script as to whether she will be part of any more projects lined up.

WandaVision is now streaming on Disney+.
