Dwayne Johnson on the Black Adam Mythology: 'Let's F*cking Go For It'

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam film is set to premiere this October 21, with a promise to fans they will get to see a Black Adam vs. Superman in the film, and staying true to the mythology of Black Adam. In fact, Johnson reassures fans they will get to see his anti-hero character in all his brutal glory.

Ahead of the film’s release, Johnson spoke to Screen Rant about his respect to the Black Adam mythology to make the character debut right, as well as behind the scenes with director Jaume Collet-Serra in setting up the ‘Dirty Harry of superheroes.’

Johnson admits in the interview he has been a fan of Black Adam, ‘just like a lot of people out there.’ He adds two basic goals the film sought to accomplish:

“Number one, let’s respect the mythology and put our best foot forward to create and deliver this version of Black Adam. Let’s tell this origin story, but excuse my language— let’s f*cking go for it. And then I think, in the intention of going for it, I think there’s a mass appeal to this guy.”

The actor shares how Black Adam director Jauma Collet-Serra first reached out to him in making the film. Black Adam would be the first big departure of Dwayne Johnson from many of his previous roles. The actor continues to say how the director already had a vision for the film, a ‘hunger’ that Johnson noticed on Jungle Cruise, which the director ends up applying in ‘elevating’ and ‘growing’ the DC universe.

“He’s the one who came to me first and he said, ‘Man, let’s create the Dirty Harry of superheroes because that’s who Black Adam is. He doesn’t give a fuck, but he gives a fuck about people whom he loves and whom he wants to protect.' I loved our director.”

Given the trailer, it would seem that the Black Adam they wish to portray on screen will soon be coming to life, indeed, as the film is set to premiere this October 21. Watch the trailer here:
