Dune Adds Another MCU Star, Production Start Date And Synopsis Revealed

Things are now moving rather quickly for the highly anticipated Dune reboot. The Denis Villeneuve film has added yet another Marvel Cinematic Universe star and is set to begin production really soon.

The upcoming movie has reportedly been included in the latest issue of Production Weekly (via ComicBook.com). The film's updated cast list now includes Ant-Man and the Wasp actor David Dastmalchian, who will play Piter De Vries, the Mentat who works for Baron Harkonnen. The role was originally played by the legendary Brad Dourif in the 1984 movie. The casting shouldn't be much of a surprise since Dastmalchian had previously worked with Villeneuve on Blade Runner 2049.

Dastmalchian is just one of the several MCU stars who will be playing bad guys in Dune. Baron Harkonnen will be portrayed by Thor: The Dark World's Stellan Skarsgård while Dave Bautista of Guardians of the Galaxy will take on the role of Glossu Rabban. Josh Brolin, who played Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, will be a good guy for a change, playing Gurney Halleck.

The report also revealed that Dune could begin production by March. In addition to that, a synopsis for the film has been revealed.

"The trouble begins when stewardship of Arrakis is transferred by the Emperor from the Harkonnen Noble House to House Atreides. The Harkonnens don't want to give up their privilege, though, and through sabotage and treachery, they cast young Duke Paul Atreides out into the planet's harsh environment to die. There he falls in with the Fremen, a tribe of desert dwellers who become the basis of the army with which he will reclaim what's rightfully his. Paul Atredies, though, is far more than just a usurped duke. He might be the end product of a very long-term genetic experiment designed to breed a super human; he might be a messiah. His struggle is at the center of a nexus of powerful people and events, and the repercussions will be felt throughout the Imperium."

Dune will hit theaters on November 20, 2020.
