It has been a year since the manga ended, and now, Dr. Stone illustrator and co-creator Boichi is back, and this time, he is illustrating a new Korean webtoon.

Specifically, it was revealed in the latest Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine issue that Boichi’s new work SuperString: Isekai Kenbunroku will debut this April.

While this series is seemingly going to release in Japanese, it is written by Korean author In-Wan Youn and is part of an existing Korean franchise. This makes sense given that Boichi is a Korean national.

Boichi is a prolific illustrator who started working on manhwa titles in Korea in the 90s. Essentially, manhwa are the Korean equivalent of manga, and there are several newer anime that are based on manhwa.

In the early 2000s though, Boichi transitioned to working in the Japanese manga industry, and he got a lot of praise for his major serialized work Sun-Ken Rock.

Since then, Boichi has become one of the most well-known manga artists among fans. He was even chosen as one of the artists for Dragon Ball’s 40th Anniversary illustration project.

Dr. Stone is perhaps Boichi’s most popular work. Illustrated by Boichi and written by Riichiro Inagaki, Dr. Stone is one of Shonen Jump’s biggest recent hits as it has over 14 million copies in circulation as of June 2022.

Aside from its commercial success, Dr. Stone also received the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award in the shonen category.

Further boosting its popularity is the anime adaptation by TMS Entertainment, the third season of which is airing this season.

While the Dr. Stone manga may be over, fans of Boichi’s works have something to look forward to as his new SuperString webtoon will be released on April 19.

This new series is part of the SuperString franchise from Korean company YLAB.

You can think of it as an IP that’s akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it features characters and storylines that cross over with each other.

Initially, it was reported that this series will be released on the LINE manga app.

Now though, it seems that it will be released as part of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday lineup.

For now, it’s unclear if this will be an online-only webtoon or a physical serialization.

Whatever the case may be, fans can look forward to another Boichi-drawn series very soon.
