Keep in mind that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not the only long-running superhero franchise of this era, because even the new DCU timeline has its own timeline to follow through. How about Doom Patrol, though? When does the series take place on the DCU timeline?

Apart from debuting more live-action superheroes such as Blue Beetle on the big screens, the current DC set-up is also looking to rebuild the entire franchise's timeline from scratch.

It's quite understandable why the MCU keeps getting compared to the DC, especially since the former has already established its timeline through Marvel movies and series. Somehow, DC's cinematic universe has yet to catch up to their success in doing so.

The most we've received from DC Studios' co-CEO James Gunn was in January 2023, when he told Gizmodo about Blue Beetle's affiliation with the previous DCEU films:

"I think that we've gotten lucky with the next four movies, frankly, because we have Shazam, which leads into Flash, which resets everything, which then goes into Blue Beetle, which is totally disconnected. He can totally be a part of the DCU, [and that] goes into Aquaman, which leads into Superman, our first big project."

Now, where Doom Patrol is set on the DCU timeline, here's what we know.

The pseudo-spinoff series to Titans takes place in 2019 (the same year of its release), which if we consider the DC Extended Universe's movies, takes place between the first Aquaman film (2018) and Birds of Prey (2020).

However, what we've got to actually take into account here is that in spite of the timeline they've been set in, this leaves confusion to DC diehards of whether they belong in the same universe.

The metaverse (or omniverse in some) exists, after all, which means other versions of the characters and alternate realities that don't always canonically happen on the main timeline.

In this case, where do the events of Doom Patrol happen?

The success of Titans boomed success and brought forth to fruition, Doom Patrol, as a part of the DC Universe. But are both shows really connected to one another?

As it so happens, Titans is on Earth-9, while Doom Patrol belongs to Earth-21, which was established in the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths event.

It was confirmed on Titans Season 4, that their stories occurred in alternate universes. Even though Titans had an episode titled and dedicated to Doom Patrol, none of the events were the same experience in their main series.

While some of the actors played both versions on both DC shows, keep in mind that they are, what the MCU calls, 'variants' or alternate versions of themselves who run different stories, based on the universe they're settled in.

It remains to be seen whether we'll actually get the main Titans and Doom Patrol team on the same universe and timeline, but considering the vast workings of the metaverse, there is a slight probability into the DC future.
