Don’t Expect Harley Quinn to be in James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

After getting fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn had been hired by DC to make the Suicide Squad sequel. What's interesting is, the movie looks to be a loose reboot, and it's possible that we won't be seeing anyone from the first movie return.

According to Forbes, The Suicide Squad will have a new cast of characters and will not directly tie-in to the first movie. The site also writes, "Harley Quinn is not expected to return, and James Gunn's script will be a new approach and rethinking of the property."

While I think that Gunn has something interesting to bring to the world of DC, I kind of wish that he didn't drop the first SS entirely. I mean, sure Suicide Squad wasn't too good, but it definitely had some elements worth saving. Harley Quinn and Deadshot definitely shone through the film, but there was also some great potential for characters like Captain Boomerang and Killer Croc.

If anything, I think Gunn knows a thing or two about getting your franchise canceled, so maybe he would have a bit of empathy for what David Ayer had set up. Of course, it's still possible that Gunn has some very interesting things in mind. Just think, if he didn't get fired from Marvel, would this film even get greenlit at all?

The Suicide Squad is set to come out Aug. 6, 2021.
