Why Is Mia Afraid of the Guillotine?
Mia Luna Tearmoon is the first princess of the Tearmoon Empire who dies from the guillotine after she is beheaded.
In the first timeline of the anime, Mia Luna was imprisoned for three years in the castle’s very own penitentiary.
She was left to stink to the extent that the guards puked upon smelling her. She was also left to starve, receiving rotten tomatoes, bread, and more.
The people of the Tearmoon Empire also labeled her as a witch who did not care about the welfare of everyone. She did not have a single idea of how to deal with the empire’s economic and political matters after all.
Mia Luna Tearmoon was known as a very selfish, spoiled, and rude princess who had no interest in the outside world.
Her everyday meal even costs a whole month's salary for a worker! She also fires servants just because she gets pissed at not liking the food they serve her.
It was too late for Mia Luna to take action, even if her loyal retainer, Ludwig, worked extremely hard to save the empire.
This resulted in the rapid decline of the Tearmoon Empire.
Its financial situation worsened, an epidemic started in the slums of the capital city, and the people started a revolution with the help of the neighboring countries which had an immeasurable effect on the royal family.
All these problems led Mia to receive the guillotine punishment. But before she was beheaded, Mia Luna regretted all of her negligence and wrongdoings.
Thankfully, Mia received another chance in life, most likely because of the two people who believed in her: Anne and Ludwig.

Does Mia Luna Tearmoon Avoid the Guillotine?
Yes, Mia Luna avoids the guillotine in Tearmoon Empire in the current timeline. She gets her happy ending with Prince Abel Remno, giving birth to eight children in the process.
It was not an easy task for Mia to accomplish. She used her ragged diary to guide her decisions as well as to gain useful connections, such as Prince Abel Remno and Prince Sion Sol Sunkland, that brought benefit to the empire.
First, Mia made Anne her personal attendant. She rewarded her loyalty by putting her in charge of everything around her. Mia also made sure that Anne and her family were safe and healthy under her protection.
Second, Mia involved herself with the five moon ministries of the empire: the Azure Moon Ministry, the administrative agency; the Scarlet Moon Ministry, which is responsible for the politics of rural regions; the Jade Moon Ministry, which is responsible for foreign affairs; the Eboy Moon Ministry for the empire’s military; and the Golden Moon Ministry for taxes.
Third, Mia sought the help of Ludwig, who devoted all his body, soul, time, and effort to cooperating with Miya.
Miya also won the favor of other neighboring countries after she enrolled in school with Tiona Rudolvon, Rafina Orca Belluga, Prince Abel, and Prince Sion, to name a few.
