Does Avengers: Endgame Set Up Disney+'s Loki Series?

[SPOILERS AHEAD FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME]

While Avengers: Endgame did bring back most of the heroes when it came to the end, some characters are going to stay dead moving forward. We may have lost the likes of Vision and Black Widow, but what about God of Mischief Loki who is getting his own miniseries from Disney+?

Though the Loki in the main timeline may have been choked out by Thanos, Endgame still features a Loki whose fate is open-ended. During the scene in 2012 where an imprisoned Loki grabs the Tesseract and disappears, we never find out where he ends up—possibly setting us up for Loki's story in the miniseries.

We don't have any official details on what the Disney+ series is going to be about, but it has been said that the show will focus on the God of Mischief jumping around time, influencing events in history because he can. I'm not saying that the Loki series will jump off from that point, but I think it's a convenient set-up to give him something that will allow him to travel instantaneously like the Tesseract.

Admittedly, the time travel rules of Avengers: Endgame are a tad wonky, and Marvel could either address it in the future or just sweep it under the rug moving forward. I mean, sure they managed to patch up the main timeline, but what happens to the realities that they messed up? How does Thor fend of the Dark Elves in 2013 if he's lost Mjolnir? How would the MCU fare after Loki runs away with the Tesseract in 2012?

For now, it looks like Marvel is just focused on getting people to watch Endgame, and the movie is definitely something. After 11 years of following its journey, I can confidently say that the film definitely culminates a long history for these characters. I can't wait what Marvel has in store for Phase 4.

Catch Avengers: Endgame in cinemas now. No release date has been set for Disney+'s Loki series.
