Doctor Who Season 12 Release Delayed Till 2020

Jodie Whittaker might have confirmed her return as the Doctor in the next season of Doctor Who, but it looks like the kooky science fiction series won't be making its way back for season 12 till 2020.

With the end of season 11 looming over the horizon, Doctor Who fans have been eagerly looking forward to the show's next batch of episodes, only to hear BBC making its surprise announcement regarding the scheduled release of Doctor Who season 12.

Taking to Twitter, BBC made the return date of the series official, announcing that Whittaker and her companions would be landing in the Tardis in an all-new season early in 2020.

This news might come as a major disappointment to Whovians. Doctor Who fans have loved almost everything about Whittaker's new Doctor and almost everyone's been itching to see more of 13 in the Doctor's next round of episodes. While BBC has yet to give a specific reason on why Doctor Who is taking a year off, this year-long gap between seasons isn't entirely alarming. It isn't uncommon for networks to give their most successful series longer hiatuses – this year HBO had to give Game of Thrones a year off so that the smash-hit fantasy epic could ramp up production.

If anything, BBC is probably giving Doctor Who more time to develop its episodes and improve its production to give fans a better-looking show. The show might be known for its budget-friendly sci-fi effects, but now it's time to catch up with everyone else.

Doctor Who season 12 drops early 2020.
