Disney's The Little Mermaid Live-Action Remake Runtime Revealed

In just a month, we're going to finally see the long-awaited live-action film adaptation of the Disney animated classic The Little Mermaid. A lot of fans have been curious about how they will be able to bring the beloved underwater tale to life as well as the iconic musical numbers by the new actors.

Just like any new film that gets released, people are starting to wonder about the runtime for The Little Mermaid and its difference from the original. At this point, looking at Disney's history in their live-action remake productions, there is a strong likelihood that it will be longer than the 1989 movie.

Now, it looks like we have the film's official runtime as the listing from the AMC Theatres website revealed that the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid will have a runtime of 2 hours and 15 minutes. As a result, it will be the longest live-action Disney remake to date as noted by One Take News in its report.

In addition, the film will be 52 minutes longer than the original, which was only 83 minutes long. This is in alignment as well with the other Disney live-action remakes as they were all significantly longer than the original.

Considering that the remake will have new songs and extended moments of some of the story beats from the original, it is not surprising that this film is going to be almost an hour longer. As we've seen in other live-action remakes, it also looks like this film will have additional scenes that the original didn't have.

For now, let's just wait and see what else they have in store for the live-action remake and see it in full context to find out why its runtime was significantly longer than the original.

The film's synopsis reads: "The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric."

"While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy."

The cast includes Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Art Malik, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy. Rob Marshall directed the film while David Magee wrote the screenplay.
