The MCU's Phase 4 roster of heroes continues to expand with Kamala Khan's arrival in Disney+'s latest series Ms. Marvel. With two episodes available to stream on the streaming service, the general audience appears to enjoy the MCU newcomer's delighting story. However, the streaming receipts claim otherwise.
According to a report from Samba TV, 775k US households in the US streamed Ms. Marvel in its first five days. Despite a seemingly triumphant streaming receipt, it places the lowest streaming performance in comparison to other Phase 4 Disney+ shows. The report also says that it is a hit for GenZ (age 20-24) and drew a more diverse audience.
For comparison, the five-day premiere viewership performance of other Disney+ shows are below:
Loki: 2.5 Million
Moon Knight: 1.8 Million
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: 1.8 Million
WandaVision: 1.6 Million
Hawkeye: 1.5 Million
On the other hand, Disney+'s animated series What If...? only has premiere data for its first-day premiere, which earned 281k views in one day.
With the streaming receipts Ms. Marvel currently has, it's heartbreaking to say that the show is undoubtedly underperforming compared to other Disney+ shows. However, this doesn't mean that the show is a total flop. One obvious reason why the show has the lowest performance is mainly due to its young adult theme, which is mainly meant for younger audiences.
Aside from that, the show's performance might also be disrupted by another competition, the groundbreaking Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which premieres on the same day and time as the Marvel show. Evidently, it seems unfair for an MCU newcomer like Kamala Khan to go against the highly-anticipated Star Wars series, which earned an impressive 2.14 Million views in the same window of time.
Nevertheless, Ms. Marvel is now just in its second week and Kamala's story and the mystical bangle's roots are just starting to unfold. For now, let's hope that the viewership of the Marvel show continues to rise, especially on its finale.
