Disney's Lilo and Stitch Live-Action Remake Adds Lovecraft Country Star Courtney B. Vance

For the past few weeks, we've been hearing a lot of casting updates on Disney's live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch as they are heading to production soon. There are still some key roles that are yet to be cast and now it looks like another actor has been added to play one of the characters from the original animated film.

According to Deadline, Emmy-winning actor Courtney B. Vance, who recently starred in the HBO series Lovecraft Country, is joining the cast of the Lilo and Stitch live-action film. He is playing the role of Cobra Bubbles, the former CIA agent turned social worker for Lilo.

The cast already includes Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Maia Kealoha (as Lilo), Sydney Elizabeth Agudong (as Nani), and Kahiau Machado (as David). Marcel the Shell with Shoes On director Dean Fleischer-Camp is helming the film which will be a live-action/CGI hybrid.

The original film revolves around a Hawaiian girl named Lilo, who formed a friendship with an extraterrestrial creature named Stitch and eventually became her pet "dog" as well as part of their "ohana." It became a huge hit when it was released and eventually turned into a franchise with an animated series spinoff.

Vance is known for his roles in TV shows such as Lovecraft Country, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and Genius: Aretha. He also starred in films such as The Mummy, Project Power, Isle of Dogs, Office Christmas Party, The Photograph, The Hunt for Red October, Terminator Genisys, and The Preacher's Wife.

It's always wonderful whenever a high-profile project hires a talented actor to its cast and Vance is certainly no exception to that as proven by the various roles that he has done in his career. The role of Cobra Bubbles is an interesting part for him to chew on and it is curious to see whether the character's presence will be expanded in the remake.
