Disney Slammed For 'Generic' The Lion King Posters

The posters of the live-action remake of Lion King are out, and fans think Disney could have done better.

Many Twitter users believe that the posters look "generic" and that if you take out the names of Simba, Nala, and Mufasa from their respective posters, they will be unrecognizable and would just look like any other lion.

The characters in these The Lion King images don't seem to have the unique characteristics of their cartoon counterparts such as Simba's red mane and Pumba's maroon color.

One user argues that they are supposed to be realistic although it was pointed out that at least in the case of Simba, there are actually lions that come with such unique color, just not very common.

As for Pumba, a lot of fans seem to agree that his The Lion King poster is the stuff of nightmares. In reality, Disney is actually on the money with that warthog rendering, but the cuteness of the cartoon version really did impact the expectation. Meanwhile, some felt weird seeing Timon as well since he didn't look much like a meerkat in the original. Check out some of the tweets below.

While recreating the animated versions into live-action won't be seamless, fans think that Disney could have done a better job at bringing the character designs as close to the originals as possible.

Since the realism was thrown out the window when it was decided the animals will have the ability to talk, fans though that The Lion King will be closer to what the cartoon versions look like.

The synopsis for The Lion King reads:

Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny on the plains of Africa. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother -- and former heir to the throne -- has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is soon ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. Now, with help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba must figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

The Lion King hits theaters July 17.
