Disney And Marvel Puts Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Production On Hold

It looks like Disney and Marvel Studios is taking the recent firing of James Gunn very seriously. The studio has reportedly put the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 production on hold until they are able to find a new director.

Preproduction for the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel was supposed to begin in the fall of this year. Although the crewmembers have only started gathering together, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that they have been dismissed and "are free to look for new work."

This is certainly disheartening considering that the crew may have been eager to begin work soon. In addition to that, the news suggests that Disney and Marvel are not moving forward with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, one source assured that the production hold is only temporary and the project will push through once a new director is confirmed.

It was previously reported that Gunn had met with Disney chairman Alan Horn earlier in August in an attempt to get his job back. However, the meeting did not go as planned for the filmmaker. Horn reportedly agreed to meet to simply "clear the air" with Gunn and had no intention of reinstating him as the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director.

Fans believed that things would have gone differently if Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was present during the meeting. Unfortunately, sources stated that Feige stood by Disney's decision on the matter.

There are several directors being considered to take over for Gunn. Hopefully, an announcement will be made soon so the sequel can begin production right away.
