Did Warner Bros Blame Zack Snyder's Justice League for the Cancelation of New Gods?

Weeks after Zack Snyder's Justice League was released, fans are still raving about it. It made more fans hyped with the restoration of the Snyderverse while also loving the new trailer from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. However, Warner Bros' recently revealed that two films will not be moving anytime soon.

The two DCEU films that will not be set in development are James Wan's The Trench and Ava DuVernay's New Gods. The Trench is an Aquaman spin-off that will incorporate some horror elements. The reason for the cancelation of the two projects was because the upcoming DC slate did not have any ‘natural spot' for the New Gods or The Trench over the next few years.

However, what captured some of the fans' attention is the reasoning for the cancellation of the New Gods project. New Gods will certainly feature Darkseid who was the major talk of the town after appearing in Snyder's Justice League.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that the New Gods project became complicated due to the fact Darkseid just appeared in Snyder's Justice League and there was a desire to have a space between the latter and any new appearances. Meanwhile, Deadline mentioned that the New Gods project was shelved as it exceeded the parameters of a stand-alone structure.

WB is not fully shutting the doors for these projects as they mentioned that the projects will remain in the hands of Wan and DuVernay should the studio decide to move forward with them in the future.
