Pokemon fans may still be eagerly awaiting the Horizons anime’s official international release, but there’s at least a new anime short for them to enjoy. Recently, a new Detective Pikachu CG anime short was released, and it is available to watch for free.
Popular anime studio Polygon Pictures animated this new short, which was uploaded to the official Pokemon YouTube channel.
It’s not just a random release. This short was made to celebrate the latest Detective Pikachu game’s recent release on the Nintendo Switch.
New Anime Short Celebrates Detective Pikachu Returns
Most Pokemon fans are probably familiar with Detective Pikachu through the 2019 Hollywood film which starred Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the eponymous Detective Pikachu.
This film became the second highest-grossing video game film of all time when its run ended. But this year, the film’s record was bumped down to third place thanks to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which became a massive hit.
It may seem like an original idea, but Detective Pikachu is a loose adaptation of the video game of the same name which was released in 2016. This game follows a talking Pikachu who acts as a detective.
It may have taken some time, but finally, a sequel was released earlier this month titled Detective Pikachu Returns.
In this sequel, Detective Pikachu returns alongside his partner, Tim Goodman. The game’s story will follow the duo as they investigate the disappearance of Tim’s father, Harry Goodman.
Similar to the first game, the sequel features gameplay that tasks players with solving mysteries by examining scenes and talking to both people and Pokemon.

Polygon Pictures Animates New Detective Pikachu Anime Short
To promote the game, a new CG anime short was released that features Detective Pikachu and Tim Goodman as they solve a new mystery.
This short is animated by Polygon Pictures, a studio that’s known for its 3D anime works like Knights of Sidonia, Kaina of the Great Snow Sea, and Estab Life: Great Escape.
The new anime short was released in both English and Japanese versions. You can watch it in English here:
Titled Detective Pikachu & the Mystery of the Missing Flan, this short follows the duo as they solve a lighthearted mystery.
This makes it a fun watch for Pokemon fans, even for those who haven’t played the games.
