Longtime followers of the Marvel Universe are well aware of the bond Deadpool and Spider-Man share in the comics.
In fact, the two popular characters are some of the closest chums in the comics, so much so that the fans ended up 'shipping’ the two, giving birth to "Spideypool".
These two have long been depicted as the best of friends in the Marvel Universe and their bromance has left fans quite amused.
From what you can tell, Deadpool’s been in pursuit of the web shooter, and you might be wondering, why is he so obsessed with Spider-Man? What did the web-slinger do to get this anti-hero wrapped around his fingers? Here’s why!

How Did Deadpool Meet Spider-Man?
Deadpool is no doubt one of the most eccentric and weirdest characters in Marvel Comics, and yet people still end up loving the guy for his quirky side.
Aside from his tendency to talk to his audience with his casual fourth-wall narrations, Deadpool’s brutality in killing his enemies doesn’t exactly strike off as ‘friendly’ material to Spider-Man.
As you might expect, ‘Spideypool’ didn’t exactly start off on the right foot. In Amazing Spider-Man #116, Spider-Man hated the mercenary because their morals weren’t a match at all.
Deadpool was getting paid to kill people, while Spider-Man's job is to keep himself from getting innocent people in the way of his rescues.
But this was just the beginning. Over the years, as Peter Parker continued to hate Wade Wilson, the latter had grown fonder of the friendly next-door neighbor hero.
‘Fond’ in the sense Deadpool wanted to be more like Spider-Man. I mean, did you know that his suit was inspired by Spider-Man’s?
Deadpool’s own creator, Rob Liefeld, even admitted it in a previous interview, even claiming the merc as "Spider-Man except with guns and swords. The idea was, he's a jackass."
There was even a deleted scene from the first Deadpool film script where Wade found Spider-Man’s mask on his way home, turned it inside out, and claimed it as his Deadpool mask.
Well, the relationship drove on to even deeper levels, because even as Peter resented Wade for taking his job seriously as a hitman, Deadpool genuinely still wants to become a better guy and seeks friendship with Spidey.
Although it doesn’t help that in other universes, Deadpool always tried to kill Spider-Man in his own way.
Focusing on Earth-616, the scarred face Wade battling with his cancer is very much trying to be a better guy than he is. For Spider-Man.
This is how the little ‘obsession’ of the Merc with the Mouth began in his pursuit of the web-slinger.

Why Deadpool is Obsessed with Spider-Man in the Marvel Comics
Essentially, Deadpool and Spider-Man have a love-hate relationship.
As much as the Merc with the Mouth aims to get closer and be more of a better hero like Spider-Man, the web-slinger almost always feels he has to foil Deadpool’s assassination plans.
As the selfish and rude anti-hero, Spider-Man is his complete opposite, which could have been one of the many reasons for eventually growing fond of him.
There had been instances where the duo was forced to work together, making even more sense behind their little 'bromance', with Deadpool's meta jokes and wit and Spider-Man trying to finish the job.
Heck, at one point, Deadpool trusted Spidey enough to even introduce his own son behind the scenes.
Who wouldn’t grow fond of Spider-Man? He’s practically got it all: good grades, the smarts, a good life, and a superhero to look up to in Queens.
In that sense, Wade’s obsession with keeping up his banters with Peter is just one of the best things to happen in Marvel Comics.
Their unique dynamic eventually landed them their own series, Spider-Man/Deadpool in 2016, kudos to their ‘Spideypool’ name.
Deep down, in spite of Spider-Man’s views opposing Deadpool’s, he knows that the mercenary is genuinely trying to be a good guy like him, too.
Now, the question is, is there a possible way that the MCU could bring the same close relationship on the small or big screens someday?
Well, it’s hard to say no to watching Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool interact with Tom Holland’s Spidey once the former joins the MCU, once Deadpool 3 emerges out of the shadows.
Although, since the Multiverse exists, we might even get to see Deadpool do the same Comic things to the other Spideys, too! With the great Multiverse's existence comes endless possibilities, after all.
