DCEU’s Aquaman Has Been Compared To The Matrix And The Lord Of The Rings

There's certainly a lot of excitement building up over Aquaman. Not only have early reactions to this month's early screenings of the DC Extended Universe entry been overwhelmingly positive, but some of the recent reviews have been calling Arthur Curry's first standalone film the installment that saves the franchise.

A special fan event was recently held in China, and during the celebration, Warner Brothers showed off 25 minutes of Aquaman to its darling fanbase. One of the fans in attendance compared the comic book movie to Lord of the Rings and The Matrix, gushing over the battle sequences featured in the footage that was screened during the event.

"Warner Bros. China showed 25 mins footage of Aquaman in Beijing premiere. All those are action scenes, so it's hard to say how narration is. But the fight is really good. The best reaction I've seen so far is James Wan give the audience the LOTR & The Matrix level battle," the fan posted on Twitter. "A media friend said he loved the tone, 'so dark on the ground but so bright in the sea. James Wan is the man who saves DC universe.'"

Unlike most of the films in the DCEU, Aquaman is filled with so many vivid colors – a stark contrast to the bleak look in some of the early films of the franchise like Man of Steel and of course Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The many different trailers for Aquaman have been teasing a brightly-lit underwater experience. While many have been expressing concern over the promotional material giving too much away, director James Wan has promised that the trailers "don't come close" to spoiling what the film has in store for everyone.

Aquaman comes swimming into cinemas December 21, 2018.
