Dark Phoenix Trailer Shows Us a New Version of Genosha

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which will only be called Dark Phoenix when it comes out next year, might just be the final X-Men film from Fox. It's no secret that Disney has purchased Fox and its assets, so expect a rebooted movie in the future that will take place in the MCU. Until then, fans may want to savor this movie when it comes out, so let's hope that it's a good one.

Fans saw a number of things in the first trailer that they liked and/or hated; Jean Grey as the Dark Phoenix, costumes based on Grant Morrison's New X-Men, and Genosha.

If you're a comic book fan, you probably didn't realize that the quiet little place Magneto was working in was meant to be Genosha. This is very different from the Genosha that appears in the comics, which was a city and is now a quaint little area, though they are keeping the part about it being a mutant haven. Fans may have had mixed reactions to the movie's first trailer, but this version of Genosha actually looks interesting.

Comic book fans know that Genosha was actually a place that treated mutants like slaves at first. Thankfully, the X-Men got involved and relations seemingly got better until a war started. Magneto soon intervened and was given the right to govern the island nation with his acolytes.

With Jean possibly being the biggest threat in the film, expect Magneto and his mutants in Genosha to take a stand against her. That, or they might try to recruit her ala X-Men: The Last Stand, which nobody liked. Either way, it's going to be interesting to see what happens in this movie, especially since this is the directorial debut of Simon Kinberg.

Dark Phoenix comes out on February 14, 2019. It's an odd way to celebrate Valentine's Day, but weirder things have happened.
