Dark Phoenix Star James McAvoy Says Marvel’s Going To Do Something New To The X-Men

The arrival of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all of Fox's other Marvel assets into the Marvel Cinematic seems to be more and more of inevitability with Disney's incoming acquisition of 20^th Century Fox and the studio's film and television assets. However, while some expect Marvel to work on the X-Men franchise that Fox has already built, X-Men: Dark Phoenix actor James McAvoy suspects the Mickey Mouse House is going to move on.

Speaking in an interview with MTV news, McAvoy reveals his anxiety of the Disney Fox acquisition saying that it's very likely that Marvel will move from the current continuity of the X-Men franchise when the studio integrates the mutants into the MCU.

"I love playing Charles. But you've got to write something interesting for you to do as an actor, you can't just keep doing the same thing again and again and again. So it may be time for somebody else to come in," McAvoy said during the discussion with the publication.

While this might mean a new set of stars and a new set of faces for X-Men favorites like Professor X, Jean Grey, Magneto, and maybe even Wolverine, McAvoy says that he's actually excited to see what Marvel does with the X-Men.

"Marvel and Disney are very smart and they've done this excellently. They seem to be on the verge of doing something new with just regards to the X-Men anyway, which is exciting, I'm excited to see that," the actor admits, "Can the X-Men fold into the Avengers world? Essentially it's the Avengers world we're talking about. I don't know."

McAvoy doesn't seem to be far off here. It's very likely that Marvel will reboot the franchise and bring in new actors and actresses to play the mutants. After all, the X-Men franchise has had more misses than hits over the years, and it would probably be much better to work on a new slate if the studio were to integrate the X-Men into the MCU.

Fox's next X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, premieres June 7.
