Cruella was released in 2021 with solid success as it generally received positive responses from the critics and fared well at its box office despite being released simultaneously on Disney+. It also ended up winning an Oscar for Best Costume Design.
Right after the release of the film, Disney announced that a sequel was officially in the works with Emma Stone expected to reprise the role of the iconic 101 Dalmatians villain.
However, since then, we haven't heard any significant update regarding the project and it prompted a concern for some fans regarding whether the sequel is still happening down the line.
Fortunately, we now have a new update courtesy of the star of the film herself.

Emma Stone Confirms Cruella Sequel is Still Happening
Speaking recently with Variety, Emma Stone was asked for an update regarding the latest status of the long-gestated sequel of Cruella.
She revealed that the script is still in the works, but she is looking forward to playing the character again soon.
"You tell me. Hopefully sooner, rather than later," the actress said. "There's a work in progress kind of thing going on. Yeah, yeah. We'll see... She's a blast, so we'll see. It's a work in progress."
Fans of the first film have nothing to worry about since we have assurance from Stone herself that the sequel is still happening despite the lack of updates since the announcement.
Perhaps they are taking their time to figure out the script and make sure that it will be in the right shape before they proceed to production.
With the underwhelming reception of some of the recent Disney releases, the studio is also probably taking a careful approach to the projects that are currently in the works.
Given the first film's success, the popularity of the character, and the star power of Stone, we can safely assume that the sequel will likely officially happen in the near future and fans need to be patient for now as they wait for more news.
