A year ago, we learned that Warner Bros. is developing a sequel to the 2005 cult classic Constantine with Keanu Reeves back in the titular role alongside director Francis Lawrence and writer Akiva Goldsman.

The news got a lot of fans excited as they never thought that the film would ever get a follow-up since it's been 18 years now since the first one was released and the character has also spawned a TV adaptation that became fan-favorite as well.

With the lack of development on the project since the announcement, some fans are also starting to get concerned about whether the movie is still happening.

Fortunately, it looks like fans have nothing to worry about as the project is still in the works based on the latest update.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence offered a promising update on the long-gestated Constantine sequel as he revealed that they are set to resume working on the project after Thanksgiving.

"But luckily, we managed to wrangle some control and started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we’re really excited about. It’s still the very beginning, as the strike put it on hold for a little bit," he said.

"So we’re probably going to start getting back together after Thanksgiving, and dig back in to try and crack it."

There you go, we have an assurance from the director himself that the sequel is still happening and it is in the works as of this time despite being halted for the past several months as a result of the Hollywood strikes.

While James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing the new DCU franchise, they are still working on Elseworld projects as evidenced by the upcoming sequels to Joker and Matt Reeves' The Batman. We can safely presume that this will be delegated to that corner of the DC franchise as well.

It might take a while before we hear the next major update on the sequel, but at the very least, we have a great assurance that it is still happening and everyone is on board to move forward with it.
