Colin Trevorrow Discusses Star Wars: Episode IX Dismissal For The First Time

Star Wars: Episode IX faced some controversy early on when original director Colin Trevorrow was let go due to "creative differences." The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams will now helm the film and fans are looking forward to it since they feel that he can right the "wrongs" that Rian Johnson supposedly made in The Last Jedi.

For the first time since his firing Trevorrow has decided to comment on his firing, though he did not give any explicit details on why he was let go. However, he did share some details that fans will find interesting, even if they aren't related to Star Wars as a whole.

Trevorrow flat out told Empire Online that he didn't want to dwell on the subject too long since he doesn't want to affect fan perception when the film comes out. Interestingly enough, he decided to share what good memories he had of the project, like telling the story he had in mind to George Lucas and Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill.

"I don't want to talk too much about it because I don't want to affect the way that fans get to see these films. When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they're made, the more it reveals that they're just movies. But they're not just movies, they're more than that. Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life."

Various reports have tackled why Trevorrow was fired, though the most popular one states that he wanted Snoke and Luke to surviveThe Last Jedi. Since Trevorrow doesn't want to talk about it, all we can do is speculate.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019. Trevorrow will directJurassic World 3, which comes out on June 11, 2021. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be produced by Trevorrow and comes out on June 22.
