Christina Ricci Gets Honest About the New Wednesday Addams

In just a month, we're about to witness Netflix's new Addams Family series titled Wednesday, which will focus on Wednesday Addams now played by rising actress Jenna Ortega. A lot of fans are looking forward to this new take on the beloved classic, especially with its inclusion of Christina Ricci, who played the titular role herself back in the '90s.

So what does Ricci think of Ortega's take on the character that she used to play early in her career? The two actresses recently have a conversation that was documented by Interview Magazine where Ricci was quoted praising the Wednesday lead star for her new take on the iconic character.

"There are a lot of nice goth nods without it being over-the-top. When I saw pictures of you, I was like, 'Oh, wow. It’s such a great, modern interpretation.' It’s true to the spirit of the character," Ricci said. "I didn’t originate this character, so I’m always like, 'She’s a cartoon and a TV show. It’s not Shakespeare, but it’s the same idea. We keep redoing the thing.'"

It is great to hear that Ricci has nothing but positive things to say about Ortega's performance as Wednesday Addams. This is a great blessing and passing the baton moment for Ortega, who is now being set up as this generation's Wednesday Addams.

It is also exciting to see this praise considering that the two shared a lot of scenes together in the upcoming series and we will be able to witness the two generations of Wednesday Addams together in the same frame, which itself is a special moment for many reasons that fans would definitely appreciate.

The series is "a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

Besides Ortega and Ricci, the cast also includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwendoline Christie, Luis Guzman, Fred Armisen, Isaac Ordonez, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Emma Myers, Naomi J. Ogawa, Joy Sunday, Victor Dorobantu, and George Burcea.
