Chris Evans had his last hurrah in the MCU as Captain America in Avengers: Endgame. While the character didn't die, he did retire from his heroic duties, married Peggy Carter, became an old man, and is now in hiding from the public to live the rest of his life.

A lot of fans are hoping that the actor will eventually return to the MCU at some point in the future. There were reports that claimed that he has signed on to return to the franchise although that remains unconfirmed.

There are also rumors that he will make his MCU return instead by reprising his Fantastic Four role in a project like Deadpool 3, but there is no confirmation yet as well regarding his potential return in his other Marvel role.

With the existence of the multiverse and the fact that Steven Rogers has not passed away within the main MCU timeline, the doors are certainly open for Evans to make his return if he is willing to do so.

Speaking with GQ, Evans was asked about his potential return to the MCU. While he iterated that he is not set to make a comeback anytime soon, he did say that the possibility is still out there although he doesn't want to do it for the sake of cash grab.

"Yeah, maybe. I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience. But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened," he said.

"And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing. So, no time soon."

This is not the first time that Evans addressed his potential return to the franchise. His previous comments were similar to the new one.

Despite the actor dismissing the likelihood of him returning to the franchise in the near future, he still gave a hopeful response that fans might be happy to hear since he showed that he is still very much open to returning if the circumstance feels right for him.

We can also safely say that fans do not want his return to be a simple cash grab and they also want his potential comeback to be more appropriate to the story. since it will be a special moment if he does decide to take the shield again.

Let's wait and see for the next couple of years whether Evans will end up returning to the franchise, especially with the current Multiverse Saga where it is more possible for them to bring him back.
