Chris Evans has become beloved now thanks to his iconic role of Captain America in the MCU which ended with 2019's Avengers: Endgame where he made his last appearance in the role.

It is undeniable that Evans' tenure in the franchise was very successful since all of his solo films became hits and his appearances in the non-Captain America projects were well-received as well, especially in the Avengers films.

All over the years, the actor has also been honest about his initial hesitation on joining the franchise which has since then changed his life and fans are definitely glad that he was able to overcome those apprehensions.

An excerpt from the upcoming book titled MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards that was shared on Vanity Fair revealed Evans' biggest concern when he joined the MCU.

Despite already announcing his casting as Steve Rogers, the actor admitted when he spoke with the authors that he had continuing concerns that the films might end up being bad, especially since he has already committed to multiple films.

"The biggest thing I was worried about was making shitty fucking movies. I don’t want to make shitty movies and be contractually obligated to make garbage," Evans said.

The Captain America actor got concerned to the point that he had this mantra playing in his head when he did the first film: "This is it. I just signed my death warrant; my life’s over. I can’t believe I did this. This isn’t the career I wanted."

Fortunately, he was able to relax after seeing the results of the Captain America films and realized that they are good after all.

A lot of fans could also agree with the sentiment as we've seen with its box office results, critical reception, and the type of responses that he got from fans and the general audience throughout the years of playing the character.

It is understandable to hear Evans' initial concern about joining the franchise since it was an unknown territory during that time and the MCU didn't have the track record that it has now back then which perhaps made the actor anxious about the reception that he could receive.

We can speculate that perhaps his experience doing the Fantastic Four films made him more worried about the situation since he knows what a failed reception of a superhero movie looks like. As we all know, his turn as Captain America had the opposite reception as it was more well-received.

At the end of the day, things were able to work out in Evans' favor and his career has changed in a bigger way since then.
