Cary Elwes Reacts To Sony's Planned Princess Bride Reboot

There is little doubt that reboots are a huge trend right now, with several old movies being remade to capture new audiences. But would you be interested in a new Princess Bride movie? Yeah, Cary Elwes isn't thrilled with the idea, either.

Variety recently published a profile on TV legend Norman Lear which spanned the producer's lengthy career. In the profile, Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra commented that the studio is interested in keeping Lear's legacy alive and how young people approach him about revisiting Lear's works.

"We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show.' Very famous people whose names I won't use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride. Some people want to do animated versions of some of the sitcoms. Not a month goes by when we don't have an idea coming from some very big name wanting to do things with [Lear]," Vinciquerra said.

A Princess Bride remake? Inconceivable. But that's not what Elwes said. Take a look at his tweet below.

"There's a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one," Elwes wrote.

I think it's safe to say that every fan out there would agree with Elwes on this one. That's a classic you don't want to try again. Let's just hope that Sony doesn't make the mistake of pursuing the project.

The Princess Bride is based on the book by the late William Goldman and was directed by Rob Reiner. Lear helped produce the adaptation, which also starred Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Fred Savage, and the late Andre the Giant.
