Captain Marvel promises to bring us a whole new set of cosmic characters in the MCU, and one of them is comic villain Minn-Erva played by Gemma Chan. Chan talks about her character and her relationship to main character Carol Danvers in the film.
Talking to EW (via ComicBookMovie), Chan describes her character, "Before Carol joined the team, Minn-Erva was the star of Starforce… So she's slightly threatened by someone else who has come in and is also very talented."
It's said that the movie will already start with Carol Danvers being a member of the Kree Starforce, and if anything , her history on Earth will be explored in flashbacks. The main plot of the movie will have something to do with a Skrull invasion on Earth, and Danvers will find herself somehow being dragged back to her home planet and stop an intergalactic war.
The MCU has undoubtedly grown in scope over the 10 years since the first film, and so far, everything we can see from Phase 4 have been explorations of Marvel Cosmic. I'm happy to see Captain Marvel in the big screen, but I'm also curious if the MCU has any more earth-bound heroes that they want to explore down the line.
Captain Marvel comes out March 8, 2019.
