Captain Marvel fans have had a lot to celebrate over this week. Not only has Marvel rolled out high-res images taken from Brie Larson's very first standalone movie as Carol Danvers, but the studio's also given fans their very first Captain Marvel trailer and poster.
Now, after making a huge splash around the globe, the Captain Marvel comic book writer behind the 2012 reboot of Carol Danvers series, Kelly Sue DeConnick, has decided to explain some of the major themes that were being explored by the Captain Marvel movie trailer.
Speaking in an interview with Polygon, DeConnick touches on Carol Danvers' grit and endurance when talking about Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Carol falls down all the time," DeConnick tells the publication "but she always gets back up — we say that about Captain America as well, but Captain America gets back up because it's the right thing to do. Carol gets back up because ‘Fuck you.'"
Marvel fans who've seen the Captain Marvel trailer have certainly noticed this tenacity and hardiness in Larson's version of Carol. Not only does the promotional video see Danvers going all super-saiyan, but it also shows the character having to pick herself up from the dust and stand tall during different points in her life – from when she was a young girl, from when she was a pilot at the airforce, and from when she joined the Starforce.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and Carol Danvers is a tough and hardy woman. We definitely can't wait to see Captain Marvel pick herself up when she makes her way to the big screen.
