Brandon Routh Admits Struggling With His Legends of Tomorrow Exit

There is little doubt that leaving a TV show that you have been with for several years can be difficult. However, it has been exceedingly hard for Brandon Routh, who has admitted that his exit from Legends of Tomorrow was not his idea. Unfortunately, the former Arrow star even confessed that he is still struggling to accept that he will no longer be a part of the CW series.

Routh was recently interviewed by Smallville actor Michael Rosenbaum for the latter's Inside of You podcast and the Batman Returns star revealed that he has trouble dealing with the exit (via Comicbook.com).

"What I try to do at work is go to work, and try to enjoy my time on set," Routh said. "You don't know what the end product is going to be. And I had to go into this — you're also talking about loss, so we're going back to that -- loss of my family for the last five years, and the character that I played for six years."

Routh also confirmed that working on the last episodes for the series was far from enjoyable.

"As you may or may not know, I filmed my last episodes in the Arrowverse and as Ray Palmer, and that was a very traumatic event for me. It was not something I was expecting, it was shocking," he said.

Sadly, Routh isn't the only one who has trouble dealing with the departure. He shared how his wife is also struggling with the network's decision to write his character off the show.

"It was before we started production, but it was not well handled, and so that has been something my wife and I are both still working through," Routh stated. "It's been a huge transition time for us these last 8, 9, 10 months. So going, how was I going to find the joy in that, knowing this thing was looming. But I worked to just be with the crew that had become my family and my cast that had become my family and experience that, and just be there in the interactions with the people."

It's sad to know that Routh is unhappy with having to leave Legends of Tomorrow. Nevertheless, we're hoping that he has new projects to work on in the future.

The next episode of Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 will air on The CW on March 10.
