The next James Bond film has finally found a new director. MGM and Eon Productions has announced that Cary Fukunaga will be taking over after Danny Boyle left Bond 25. In addition to that, the 007 flick is getting a new release date in 2020.
The announcement was made on the official James Bond Twitter account. The message came from producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson as well as lead star Daniel Craig. Check out the post below.
Fukunaga is known for directing the Idris Elba war drama Beasts of No Nation. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for his work on the first season of True Detective. Fukunaga was the first director hired to work on the live-action adaptation of Stephen King's It. However, he opted out of the project although his screenplay was still used for the Andy Muschietti movie.
There is little doubt that Fukunaga's involvement in James Bond 25 will mean good things for the film. Let's hope he'll get along well with Craig, has been cited as the reason for Boyle's departure. Boyle reportedly left the project after a disagreement with Craig on the casting of the main villain.
MGM also confirmed that the still-untitled Bond movie will begin production in March 2019. Moreover, the release date has been moved to February 14, 2020. Now I know what I'll be doing on Valentine's Day in 2020.
Fukunaga's most recent project is the dark comedy web series Maniac starring Emma Stone (La La Land) and Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street). The show is scheduled to air on Netflix on September 21.
