It’s still a while before the films’ release dates, but Bocchi the Rock! is already hyping up the new compilation movies. Today, Bocchi the Rock! revealed the titles of the two compilation films, and they are references to the popular Japanese band, Asian Kung-Fu Generation.

The titles were shared on the anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The titles may seem plain, but those who are followers of Japanese music will likely spot the neat references to Asian Kung-Fu Generation’s songs.

Bocchi the Rock! was easily one of the biggest breakout anime hits of 2022. It may not have gotten much attention ahead of the Fall 22 season, but it quickly became one of the season’s most popular titles.

It has been a year since the show first aired, but the Bocchi fanbase continues to be active online. Given the show’s enduring popularity, many expect that a second season is inevitable.

Despite this, Season 2 has yet to be announced. Fans are at least being treated to lots of collabs and projects, one of which is the upcoming compilation film duo.

Announced a few months ago, Bocchi will get two compilation movies that will be released in Japanese cinemas next year.

Each movie will feature six episodes each, meaning fans will basically rewatch the anime if they watch this in theaters.

Aside from the compilation films, there will also be a home video release for the March 2023 live concert. Plus, the show continues to get lots of merch and collabs with various brands.

The compilation movies are titled Bocchi the Rock! Re: and Bocchi the Rock! Re:Re:. On their own, these titles make sense as Re: means again, but that’s not all there is to the titles.

Japanese rock band Asian Kung-Fu Generation also has a song titled Re:Re:, which is best known for being the opening theme of the Erased anime. Essentially, the film titles are a reference to this song.

This isn’t too surprising given that the anime’s cast is already a reference to the band. That’s because the family names of Hitori, Nijika, Ryo, and Ikuyo are also the surnames of the band’s members.

What’s more, the anime’s fourth ending theme is a cover of the Asian Kung-Fu Generation song, Rock and Roll, Morning Light Falls on You.

The compilation films will be released in Japanese cinemas in Spring and Summer 2024, respectively. There’s no word yet on international release plans for the movies.
