Blade Runner TV Series Confirmed to Be In The Works

1982's Blade Runner remained to be a cult classic in the science fiction genre up to this day. It even spawned a sequel in 2017 which was deemed by some as one of the cases where the sequel is better than the original. Now, it looks the Blade Runner universe will continue through the live-action television format.

Per Variety, during an interview with BBC, original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott revealed that they are currently working on a TV series adaptation of the film. He said, "We [have already] written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible. So, we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, the first 10 hours." However, he didn't reveal which writer is attached to the project and which network or streaming service is the project currently set up at.

Scott also revealed in the same interview that the Alien TV series is also in a "similar" treatment where a pilot and bible were already written and they are planning it to be 8-10 hours. Unlike Blade Runner, the Alien TV series is already set up at FX with Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley attached as the writer of the series.

The news came out as a surprise to most people as a Blade Runner TV series project hasn't been announced or reported before. Scott's revelation in the interview is the first time that the public knows about the existence of the project. However, Blade Runner already made its jump to television through the currently-airing anime series Blade Runner: Black Lotus that is showing at Adult Swim in the US.
