There is little doubt that people have strong opinions on T'Challa being recast after the passing of the late Chadwick Boseman. But what do the stars of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have to say about bringing in a new actor to play the beloved character? Winston Duke has weighed in on the idea of recasting T'Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel.
Winston Duke was recently a guest on the Jemele Hill is Unbothered podcast where he spoke about his upcoming film. In addition to that, Duke shared his thoughts on the possible recasting of T'Challa in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
"I think for this iteration of Black Panther, it's very hard for me to really comment on something like that. Because I'm of the mind that this is Chadwick's role," Duke said. He continued by pointing out that Chadwick Boseman should be the only one who will play T'Challa.
"Chadwick created this and Black Panther wouldn't be the same without Chadwick Boseman, who stood for the things that he stood for. When you cast a person, you're also casting their experiences, their politics, all of these things."
Duke concluded, "Black Panther was defined by the actor that did it, in my opinion. So, I feel, as-is, the decision that's been made to keep T'Challa, Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa is one that has a lot of nobility in it."
We certainly agree with Winston Duke on this one and it's hard to imagine any other actor playing T'Challa. With that in mind, we can't wait to see how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will honor Chadwick Boseman.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will bring back Duke, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett. They will be joined by Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Michaela Coel as a new Dora Milaje Aneka, and Tenoch Huerta as Namor. The sequel will premiere in theaters on November 11, 2022.
