Bill Hader Stopped Signing BB-8 Merch Due To 'F*cked Up' Star Wars Incident

Apart from being in IT: Chapter Two, Bill Hader has a key role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The 44-year-old actor is known for being the ‘voice consultant’ for BB-8 alongside Ben Schwartz.

Now, in a recent interview with Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hader confesses one disturbing Star Wars incident that forced him to stop signing autographs and franchise merch altogether.

“I used to sign stuff, and then one time, I saw somebody and they had their kid come up to me to sign a BB-8 thing, and it was three in the morning.” Hader said.

“I was leaving the Inside Out premiere and then we went to an after-party thing and it was super late and this guy kept his kid up all night. [He was like], ‘Go over there so he’ll sign it so I can sell it online.’”

Hader added: “I was like, ‘That’s f*cked up,’” he shared, “And so now, I just kind of blanket, like, I’m not signing any of this sh*t.”

That said, Hader also admitted another thing on the podcast. He doesn’t want to get ‘too much credit’ for playing the role of BB-8.

“It’s very sweet that J.J. Abrams put my name on it, but I came in and did voice stuff for it that didn’t work,” he recalled.

“Then he brought me in later and said, ‘Hey, do you want to do this?’ It was like a… talk box thing and then I did that.”

As for why he has yet to reprise his role, Hader shared, “And the reason he hasn’t had me come back yet is because anybody can do that… It’s like a machine that you can operate.”

As it stands, it would seem that it wasn’t Hader or Schwartz who brought BB-8 to life in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker — it was the voice box machine.

It remains to be seen whether Bill Hader or Ben Schwartz will be called in anytime soon to reprise the role.
