In every anime season that comes our way, we’re blessed with several new isekai anime to binge-watch, but we don’t always get to have new isekai anime movies with fascinating fantasy worlds. In this article, we’ve compiled standalone isekai anime movies that will not require you to watch a 12- to 13-episode anime.

Because this list will focus on standalone isekai anime movies, don’t expect to see any Overlord, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, or even Sword Art Online anime movies.

  1. Over the Sky

What do you think happens in the afterlife? Is it like Yu Yu Hakusho, where we get another chance in life, or, in this case, Over the Sky takes you to a strange place called the World Border, where you can start life anew without your memories?

Over the Sky follows Mio Miyamasu, a teenage girl who struggles to confess her feelings to her childhood friend, Arata Kishimo.

After getting into an argument with Arata, Mio decides to go out in the rain and confess, only to get hit by a car!

The next thing Mio knows, she’s in a strange parallel world where she needs to contemplate forgetting Arata or starting life anew.

  2. Fantastic Adventure of Yohko: Leda

Released in the 1980s, The Fantastic Adventure of Yohko: Leda is a charming yet trippy isekai anime movie that blends action, fantasy, adventure, and fan service.

If you think this 1980s anime is full of ridiculous and cringe-worthy moments, then you’re wrong.

The Fantastic Adventure of Yohko: Leda follows Yoko Asagiri, a young girl who suddenly finds herself in a mysterious realm called Ashanti after she is swallowed by the ground.

She only wants to confess to the love of her life, but she ends up fighting the evil forces of Zell, who mistook her cassette tape for the mythical Heart of Leda.

Talk about a confession gone wrong!

  3. Pop in Q

If you love music, then Pop in Q may perhaps be your next Isekai anime film.

It makes use of musical sequences to uplift the viewers and give a heartwarming experience, in addition to vivid animation and character-driven storytelling.

Pop in Q centers on five middle school girls who were chosen to become the legendary heroes known as Selectors in the magical realm called Pocket World.

They encounter the guardian deity of the Pocket World named Timotei, and they learn that they need to save the world from imminent destruction.

The only way for the selectors to save the world is to gather musical notes and perform a legendary song called Grand Reset. Will they be able to accomplish their objective and save Pocket World?

  4. Ni No Kuni

You might have heard about Ni No Kuni a long time ago, probably because you have played the game adaptation, which features Oliver, a young boy who embarks on a journey to the Other World to save his mother’s life in the real world.

In the movie adaptation, there’s a different story in which it features two high school friends named Yuu and Haru, rather than Oliver.

After getting involved in a tragic accident, they wound up in the Other World, where they discovered doppelgangers of themselves.

Thus, Yuu and Haru journey across a parallel world full of magic and mystery. Will they be able to uncover the truth behind the Other World?

  5. Brave Story

This list would not be complete without Miyuki Miyabe’s novel, Brave Story, which was later adapted into an anime film.

It follows Wataru, a young boy who discovers a gateway to a magical world called Vision. There exists the Goddess of Destiny, who can not only change Wataru’s destiny but also save the life of his mother.

But the road ahead is perilous, as Wataru needs to deal with battle adversaries trying to bring him down.

Brave Story boasts stunning visual animation, heartfelt moments, emotionally resonant narrative, and imaginative world-building that will captivate the viewers.

  6. Lonely Castle in the Mirror

What if one day you find a portal leading to a magical castle in your mirror? In Lonely Castle in the Mirror, a bullied high school freshman named Kokoro learns that there’s a magic portal in her mirror leading to a mysterious castle where she encounters the Wolf Queen.

Along with six other teenagers who have their own inner struggles and desires, Kokoro needs to find a key lying about in the castle to be awarded a wish.

However, any person who breaks the rules established by the Wolf Queen will be eaten.

Lonely Castle in the Mirror explores themes like friendship, loneliness, and healing. This isekai anime movie weaves the characters’ emotional journey while exploring their vulnerabilities and the complexities of their lives.

  7. Little Nemo

Immerse yourself in the whimsical world of Slumberland, along with Nemo, Princess Camille, and Professor Genius!

After opening a mysterious door known as the Forbidden Door, Nemo discovers that the nightmare king has kidnapped Morpheus, the King of Slumberland.

Thus, Nemo embarks on a quest to rescue Morpheus and restore peace and harmony to Slumberland.

Little Nemo presents a visually stunning journey in a vibrant fantasy world where the characters face various challenges that will help them grow and develop.

There are a lot of life lessons in the movie that will also resonate with the viewers.

  8. The Boy and the Beast

Mamoru Hosoda’s fourth original feature film, The Boy and the Beast, is a heartwarming isekai anime movie that beautifully portrays the personal growth of the characters and the complexities of their bond.

It is a captivating film that appeals not only to children but to adults alike, thanks to its stunning animation, fantastical world-building, exhilarating action sequences, and rich storytelling.

The core of the story is the relationship between a human boy named Ren and his master/father figure, Kumatetsu, who is actually a bear-like warrior.

After stepping into a parallel world full of beasts, Ren crosses paths with Kumatetsu, who takes him in as his apprentice despite the contrast in their personalities.

The more time they spend together, the more their bond develops. While Ren embarks on a quest for personal growth, Kumatetsu deals with internal conflicts and turmoil that threaten everything, including his bond with Ren.

  9. The Cat Returns

Yet another Studio Ghibli film, The Cat Returns is a whimsical isekai anime movie that takes a young girl named Haru to the fantastical realm called Cat Kingdom after saving its prince, Lune.

Haru’s situation escalated quickly after discovering that she needed to marry Lune regardless of her will. Perhaps it has something to do with the gifts Lune showered on Haru before coming to the Cat Kingdom?

What is certain is that Haru needs to find a way back home before she actually marries Lune!

The Cat Returns is a delightful anime film that has charming characters capable of resonating with different age groups. It blends humor, fantasy, and adventure that will make a lasting impression on the viewers.

  10. Spirited Away

Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away is a cinematic marvel that fans should watch at least once in their lifetime.

It transcends age barriers thanks to its whimsical and profound storytelling, intricately crafted characters, mesmerizing soundtrack, significant themes, and visual beauty, just to name a few.

This classic isekai anime movie revolves around Chihiro, a young girl who finds herself in an enchanting but mysterious world ruled by gods, spirits, and various supernatural beings after moving to a new town with her parents.

Chihiro sets out on a mission to save her parents, who have been turned into pigs after they ate food meant for the spirits.

Unlike isekai TV anime series, there's a lack of isekai anime movies. Hopefully, in the future, this list will be updated with new films that will take you to more fantasy worlds!
