Keanu Reeves may be known in more prominent action movie roles, but the most you’d probably found him from was in the John Wick franchise as the titular character. Reeves is not only currently filming for John Wick: Chapter 4, but is also simultaneously preparing for the John Wick spinoff: Ballerina alongside Ana de Armas. Now, with the John Wick franchise expanding, it’s only natural to question where the spinoff will take place, in spite of a new protagonist. Well, Reeves has just answered that.
Making a recent appearance at CCXP (via HyperOmelete), Reeves reveals the timeline of when the John Wick spinoff occurs in the John Wick franchise. While indicating the exact point of time, Wick also addresses the change of main star attraction for the film. Check out Reeves’ full quote below:
“So, the film Ballerina that Ana de Armas stars in, directed by Len Wiseman, has already started filming, and it takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4.”
The official synopsis for Ballerina is being kept under wraps, but as Deadline previously revealed, the spinoff will pretty much be close to John Wick’s initial motive — exacting revenge. However, we do know that Ballerina will be set in the perspective of a new assassin to be played by Knives Out and Blonde’s Ana de Armas as she seeks vengeance against the killers of her family.
With Ballerina set to occur between John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4, we can only assume that Ana de Armas’ role could potentially affect the turnout of John Wick: Chapter 4 despite the spinoff coming in the aftermath. What do you think? Are you excited to see Armas transform into an assassin?
The John Wick spinoff: Ballerina has no exact date yet as of now, but John Wick: Chapter 4 is slated for its theatrical release on March 24, 2023.
