It's controversial, for sure, to have a film on a streaming platform with an NC-17 rating but it is a hurdle that Blonde will be facing in the next couple of days once it comes out on Netflix. The actress playing Marilyn Monroe, Ana De Armas, shares her excitement as she hypes up the release of the movie.
Ana De Armas headlines Netflix's Blonde as Marilyn Monroe in the controversial film directed by Andrew Dominik which is one of the participants selected for this year's Venice Film Festival. The rawness of the emotion of the film made it a standout.
Speaking with Variety, Ana De Armas reveals what she felt during the 14-minute standing ovation that Blonde had during the film festival, “‘How many minutes is your applause?’ Why is that a thing to be considered? Why is that important? But then it feels so authentic when it happens.”
To add, De Armas hypes up the release of the film on Netflix, “It’s very nerve-racking! Because it’s literally not just a movie theater — it is everybody. The world will see it. So I am very excited — and it is time to let go.”
Blonde will follow the private life of Marilyn Monroe in fiction based on the novel of Joyce Carol Oates about the famous Hollywood icon. It's haunting to think that it will revolve around a person seen by others for what they want to see her and not for who she really is.
Netflix's Blonde has been given an unusual NC-17 rating as it has explicit scenes and will tackle sensitive topics like drug abuse, abortion, graphic sex, nudity, and more. There is even a rape scene in the movie resulting to the said rating.
Netflix’s Blonde stars Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, Adrien Brody as Arthur Miller, Bobby Cannavale as Joe DiMaggio, Caspar Phillipson as John F. Kennedy, Julianne Nicholson as Gladys Pearl Baker, Xavier Samuel as Charles Chaplin Jr., Luke Whoriskey as James Dean, Michael Masini as Tony Curtis, Sara Paxton as Miss Flynn, and more.
Netflix’s Blonde arrives on Netflix on September 28, 2022.
