What is Badland Hunters' Story About?
Before discussing the Badland Hunters' sequel, let's talk about what the movie is about.
The recent events of a massive earthquake have left the bustling city of Seoul in shambles and ruin. In Badland Hunters, a group of individuals find themselves together as they try to survive a dystopian Seoul.
When a teenage girl gets kidnapped by a mad doctor, a wasteland hunter steps up for a daring rescue mission.

What is Concrete Utopia, Is it a Sequel to Badland Hunters?
Ever since the trailer of Badland Hunters came out, there have been reports that it is the sequel to another Korean movie, Concrete Utopia.
The 2023 film was a critically acclaimed disaster movie that was adapted from a webtoon called Pleasant Outcast. The movie follows a group of people as they try to survive a massive earthquake that hit Seoul.
When the movie came out in theaters in August 2023, it received a lot of positive reviews. It was also chosen as the official entry of South Korea in the Best International Feature Film category for the Oscars.
Based on the trailer of Badland Hunters and the premise of Concrete Utopia, it looks like the two are similar films. But as clarified by Badland Hunters' director, Heo Myung-haeng, it is not a direct sequel to Concrete Utopia (via Yonhap News Agency).
"It's an independent work with a totally different universe and plot."
The two films may exist in the same fictional universe. But each film has a different background and plot.
With this in mind, Concrete Utopia is not a direct Badland Hunters sequel. The lead of the film, Ma Dong-seok says:
"Some people say zombies appear in our film, but the truth is, there are no zombies. It features a different kind of creature."

Which Concrete Utopia Stars are Joining Badland Hunters?
So will there be any Concrete Utopia stars joining the cast of Badland Hunters?
While we don't know which timeline Badland Hunters follows, its trailer suggests that things don't look too well for everyone left in the dystopian world. This could also suggest that none of the Concrete Utopia stars will be reprising their roles.
Right now, the official cast of Badland Hunters includes Ma Dong-seok, Lee Hee-joon, Lee Jun-young, Roh Jeong-eui, and An Ji-hye.
We'll have to wait for the film's release on January 26 to see if any of the Concrete Utopia stars make a guest appearance in the sequel.
