Now is a great time to be a fan of Ryohgo Narita. Aside from two of his works getting an anime, the Baccano! creator’s Kuramerukagari novella is getting an anime film adaptation, which will be released in April next year.

The film was announced recently alongside the reveal of the Kurayukaba anime movie’s long-awaited Japanese theatrical run.

Fans of Narita’s work will be forgiven if they aren’t familiar with Kuramerukagari. After all, word about this project didn’t really spread outside of Japan.

Ryohgo Narita is a popular writer best known for writing the Baccano! and Durarara!! light novels, both of which have gotten hit anime adaptations.

On top of these, Narita is also working on the Dead Mount Death Play manga, which recently got an anime adaptation. There’s also Fate/strange Fake, which is another project of his with an upcoming anime.

Now, Narita’s novella Kuramerukagari is getting an anime film that will be released on April 12, 2024. The upcoming movie has a new trailer that features the voice of Ayane Sakura (Gabi Braun in Attack on Titan).

You can check out the trailer here:

The Kuramerukagari novella is a spinoff of the Kurayukaba anime film. Instead of being distributed by a major publisher, this novella was given to backers of the movie’s crowdfunding campaign.

Kurayukaba may be familiar to some as it won the Audience Award at the Fantasia International Film Festival back in August.

Even though it was screened at several international festivals, it is only in 2024 that the movie will get a wide release in Japan. Its release will be accompanied by the Kuramerukagari film’s theatrical run.

Shigeyoshi Tsukahara’s Kurayukaba is a mystery film set in Taisho-era Japan. It also features a unique art and animation style that helped it get a good reception in various film festivals.

This film stars two popular anime VAs, the first being Tomoyo Kurosawa as Tanne. Kurosawa is best known for voicing Mitsumi Iwakura in Skip and Loafer.

Alongside her is Yu Serizawa, another well-known VA who voiced Kaname in Tonikaku Kawaii.

The Kurayukaba anime film will be released in Japanese cinemas on April 12, 2024 – the same day as the spinoff anime film based on Narita’s novella.

For now, there’s no word on international release plans for these two films.
