Avengers: Infinity War Theory Breaks Hearts With The Truth Behind Loki’s Sacrifice

Marvel fans were pretty shocked when they saw Loki (Tom Hiddleston) choked to death by Thanos (Josh Brolin) during the opening sequence of Avengers: Infinity War. The Asgardian God of Mischief has always been a fan-favorite character and fans couldn't believe that Marvel would put an end to Loki and all of his antics.

Though some continue to hold on to the hope that Loki simply tricked Thanos and that Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) brother is alive and well, there's a new theory that's become pretty popular with the fanbase.

Taking to Reddit, Marvel fan Mercury Maxwell decided to share a new line of thought explaining why Loki's dead and gone. While there are so many theories circulating online saying that Loki faked his death or that Loki's gone to Valhalla, this theorist takes the grim truth head on – Loki is one hundred percent dead.

"Loki knows Thanos. He knows he is mad, cruel and is obsessed with balance," Mercury Maxwell explains on the Reddit thread. "It wouldn't be a push as to say, Thanos, after he is done would kill only one brother to "balance" the scales. This is why Loki sacrifices himself, to save his brother he has finally accepted."

If the theory does prove to be true, then it makes Loki's death even more heartbreaking than it already was. Imagine seeing Thor and Loki finally accepting each other, only to have one brother willingly sacrifice himself to save the other. If that isn't love, then we honestly don't know what is.

The sequel to Infinity War, Avengers 4, is set for release May 3, 2019.
