Avengers: Infinity War Directors Give Update on Black Widow and Bruce Banner's Relationship

While it wasn't a popular decision to pair up Bruce Banner with Black Widow, fans were still interested to see how the two would interact in Avengers: Infinity War. Joss Whedon came up with the decision to pair them up in Avengers: Age of Ultron, though fans of the first film thought he was setting her up with Hawkeye.

However, if these recent comments from the Russo Brothers mean anything, it looks like these two are done for.

Fans who saw the film saw the cold response Natasha gave Bruce when he introduced himself, which he deserved. During a Q and A in an Iowa High School (via ComicBook.com), the directing duo implied that the relationship is over and Natasha has moved on during the two years when he was away.

"Look, he disappeared for two years. She's pretty self-sufficient, she didn't wait around for him. There's sort of unspoken truth that there's need to be a spoken resolution."

Considering how the Avengers had to concentrate on the battle with Thanos and the Black Order, it's understandable that we wouldn't get a resolution to this particular story. The two characters did survive the post-Thanos destruction, so might be able to see how they interact in Avengers 4.

Since a Black Widow movie is expected to come out sometime after Avengers 4, we could see her have a new love interest or none at all. Maybe she'll be paired up with Winter Soldier, like in the comic books? Who knows at this point?

Avengers: Infinity War is now showing in theaters.
