Avengers: Infinity War Director Says Studios Should Stop Launching Their Own Cinematic Universes

Other Hollywood studios might be hoping to build their own cinematic universes after seeing the success of Marvel, but Avengers: Infinity War director Joe Russo doesn't think it's a good idea.

Speaking in an interview with Variety, Russo gave some bit of advice to studios hoping to replicate Marvel and create their own cinematic universes.

"Yeah, don't do it," Russo said. "Not everything can be sustained through a cinematic universe."

During the discussion with the publication, Russo also discussed the difficulties of building up a cinematic universe filled with so many beloved characters.

"I think all of this — Netflix, Marvel, Star Wars, this massive moment of disruption we're in — is really a function of audiences craving new kinds of storytelling," the director tried to explain.

Russo does have a point. We live in an age where we're barraged with all sorts of information and stories from the media and from the internet. Audiences start craving for a different kind of storytelling because of all the different series and movies we get to see.

Though other studios have tried their best to build their own cinematic universes, many have failed. Warner Bros. burgeoning DC Extended Universe still hasn't found its footing. Universal Picture's Dark Universe just died the movement it began. And Legendary Picture's Monsterverse isn't doing so great either. Maybe studios have to focus on finding better ways to tell stories instead of wasting time building a failed universe.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
